Dear Customers,
Please be advised that in order to provide you with a better service, our Chamber will now offer afternoon customer service on Thursdays too (from 13.00 to 16.00) in legalization and Apostille matters, starting from 8 May 2025. The afternoon customer service hours on Tuesdays will of course remain unchanged (from 13.00 to 16.00).
Please be informed that the increasing number of customers required the launch of a queuing system from 1 February 2025.
All customers must take a number upon arrival. The queuing machine operates in the business hours and automatically works with 10 minutes intervals. The daily available numbers are maximised. The operation of the machine ends at 11:50 and 15:50 or after all the numbers are taken per day. Without an online booked appointment, it is possible that you will not be able to receive a number due to the maximised numbers available.
We kindly ask you to arrive on time and arrange your legalization procedure having regard to the foregoing.
From 3 March 2025 it is possible to book an appointment online in advance. Customers who have booked online will be given priority for processing.From 3 March 2025 online appointment is compulsory for customers with more than 15 documents.

According to § 1 of Act VIII of 2008, as of 1 September 2008 the legalization of public documents issued (authenticated) by civil law notaries which are intended for use abroad and the issuing of Apostille for such public documents is carried out by the Hungarian Chamber of Civil Law Notaries.
The Hungarian Chamber of Civil Law Notaries is issues the legalization or the Apostille for the following public documents:
1. public documents bearing the seal and signature of a Hungarian civil law notary,
2. certified copies of an aforementioned public document issued by a notarial archivist,
3. certified translations of public documents bearing seal and the signature of a Hungarian civil law notary or certified translations of true copies of notarial documents issued by a notarial archivist (for the list of persons and institutions authorized to issue certified translations please refer to our info sheet)
The fee of legalization or Apostille issued by the Hungarian Chamber of Civil Law Notaries is HUF 15,000 per signature of the civil law notary or the translator which must be paid by way of:
a. bank transfer to the bank account of the Hungarian Chamber of Civil Law Notaries, account number: 10918001-00000007-15030116 (in case of bank transfer from abroad – IBAN number: HU35 10918001-00000007-15030116, Swift Code: BACXHUHB); the currency of the bank transfer must be Hungarian Forint, otherwise the payment cannot be accepted;
b. postal cash transfer (so called „yellow check” which is available at the office of the Hungarian Chamber of Civil Law Notaries);
The fee CANNOT be paid by way of inland money order (so called „pink check”).
The payment of the fee is to be confirmed upon submitting the application for legalization or Apostille with the daily bank account proving the bank transfer or with the counterfoil of the postal cash transfer.
The application for legalization or Apostille can be submitted personally or by a representative at the office of the Hungarian Chamber of Civil Law Notaries (1087 Budapest, Stróbl Alajos utca 3/b. ) during office hours (Monday, Wednesday, Friday – 9-12, Tuesday, Thursday – 9-12 and 13-16).
The personal data of the applicant or of the representative provided on the application form will be verified by way of verifying the ID card or passport by the administrator of the Hungarian Chamber of Civil Law Notaries.
The application for legalization or Apostille can be submitted via post as well (postal address: 1535 Budapest, Pf.: 839.). In this case the daily bank account proving the bank transfer or the counterfoil of the postal cash transfer proving the payment of the fee must be attached to the application form and the applicant must indicate the country in which he/she intends to use the public document.
The legalization or Apostille for public documents issued by courts or by the Ministry of Justice (IM Céginformációs és Elektronikus Cégeljárásban Közreműködő Szolgálata – company register) is issued by the Ministry of Justice.
